Tactics and Techniques of Elite Open Water Swimmers is the ultimate resource for coaches and athletes looking to improve their open water swimming performance. Steven Munatones describes open water swimming technique, strategies, and training with a methodology that is easy to understand and implement. Most swimming resources look at swimmers in a pool or a controlled environment. Highly choreographed DVDs may be pretty to look at, but often miss the essence of the sport.
"This DVD inserts you directly into the race, immersing you into never before seen action - at times brutal, at times thrilling, but never dull."

got this for christmas. really cool. loved the music and the close up swimming shots. the only thing missing was a bit more information or advice on how to do it.
An excellent DVD either for beginner or advanced open water swimmers. It shows a lot of great open water techniques that I had heard of, but never actually seen. I really liked the fact that the entire video is filmed in open water. No swim coach standing on a pool deck trying to show a drill...
There is one video sequence with pretty cool music that definitely gets you pumped up.
The one downside is that all of the swimmers shown (Fran Crippen, Chip Peterson, the list goes on) are really not typical of triathletes that I swim with. It is a bit discouraging to see these guys racing to the finish after 6.5 miles if you are just trying to finish your first 800 y swim. Overall though, worth the money.
Overall a great DVD. There could have been a little more instruction on technique, but the swimming was really incredible. One of a kind.

Love this DVD. Watching Fran Crippen up close in a real race is incredible. I definitely picked up some tips for my next triathlon.
I met Steven Munatones at swim meet around a year ago and had a chance to talk to him about Open Water Swimming. He is truly an Open Water Swimming Guru. When I heard he created this new DVD, I had to get it.
I am a swim coach and have been getting our swimmers more and more involved in Open Water Swimming. I have used this DVD to show the team exactly what they are getting ready to do. It is the only Open Water Swimming DVD that I have found that shows real race footage, so close that you can almost feel the chill of the water.
When you go to an Open Water event, you never actually see the what the swimmers are doing, so it is hard to teach your swimmers. One great example is the turn footage. From the shore, it is impossible to understand the frantic swimming that goes on around the buoy. The video goes into a lot of detail on how to manage this situation.
The narrator is a bit odd, but the content is great.
If you are an open water swimmer, or thinking of trying it...this is a must.
