The Athlete Village recognizes that privacy today is more important than ever. We provide this notice to disclose our online information practices and the choices available regarding collection and use of your information.

The Athlete Village respects the privacy of visitors to its websites.  As a result, we have chosen to adhere to this website privacy policy. Through this website The Athlete Village will collect information that can identify you, such as your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, photograph, video, and other similar information (“Your Information”) when it is voluntarily submitted to us (however, see discussion below about “IP Addresses” if you have a broadband connection). We will use Your Information to respond to requests you may make of us, and from time to time, we may refer to Your Information to better understand your needs and how we can improve our website, products, and services. We may also use Your Information to contact you and/or provide you with related information (like information on swimming news and updates) as well as information about our products and services.

During registration you are required to provide contact information (such as name and email address). We use this information to contact you about the services on our site in which you have expressed interest. You have the option to provide demographic information (such as gender) to us; we encourage you to submit this information so we can provide you a more personalized experience on our site. 

If you purchase a product or service from us, we request certain personally identifiable information from you on our order form. You must provide contact information (such as name, email, and shipping address) and financial information (such as credit card number, expiration date).  We use this information for billing purposes and to fill your orders.  If we have trouble processing an order, we will use this information to contact you.

Customer Service

Based upon the personally identifiable information you provide us, we will send you a welcoming email to verify your username and password.  We will also communicate with you in response to your inquiries, to provide the services you request, and to manage your account. We will communicate with you by email or telephone, in accordance with your wishes.

Service-related Announcements

We will send you strictly service-related announcements on rare occasions when it is necessary to do so.  For instance, if our service is temporarily suspended for maintenance, we might send you an email. 

Generally, you may not opt-out of these communications, which are not promotional in nature.  If you do not wish to receive them, you have the option to deactivate your account.

Newsletters / Special Offers and Updates

If you wish to subscribe to our newsletter, we will use your name and email address to send the newsletter to you.  We will occasionally send you information on products, services, special deals, promotions.  You can sign up for these emails from us on our registration page. Out of respect for your privacy, we provide you a way to opt out of these services.  Simply log into your profile and change your preferences.

Any other information transferred by you in connection with your visit to this site (“Other Information” - that is, information that cannot be used to identify you) may be included in databases owned and maintained by The Athlete Village or its agents. The Athlete Village retains all rights to these databases and the information contained in them. Other Information we collect may include your IP Address and other information gathered through our weblogs and cookies (see below).

This site uses a technology known as web beacons - sometimes called single-pixel gifs - that allow this site to collect web log information. A web beacon is a graphic on a web page or in an e-mail message designed to track pages viewed or messages opened. Web log information is gathered when you visit one of our websites by the computer that hosts our website (called a “webserver”). The webserver automatically recognizes some non-personal information, such as the date and time you visited our site, the pages you visited, the website you came from, the type of browser you are using (e.g., Internet Explorer), the type of operating system you are using (e.g., Windows 2000), and the domain name and address of your Internet service provider (e.g., AOL). This website uses technology called a “cookie”. A cookie is a piece of information that our webserver sends to your computer (actually to your browser file) when you access a website. Then when you come back our site will detect whether you have one of our cookies on your computer. Our cookies help provide additional functionality to the site and helps us analyze site usage more accurately. For instance, our site may set a cookie on your browser that keeps you from needing to remember and then enter a password more than once during a visit to the site. Some of our business partners (e.g., advertisers) use cookies on our site.  We have no access to or control over these cookies. We use a third-party tracking services that use cookies and other tracking technologies to track non-personally identifiable information about visitors to our site in the aggregate.  We track information such as search terms used to find The Athlete Village, overall site usage, time of day usage, referral sites, and time spent on The Athlete Village website.  We use this information to better serve our visitors, and to optimize our community.

This website uses Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses. An IP Address is a number assigned to your computer by your Internet service provider so you can access the Internet. Generally, an IP address changes each time you connect to the Internet (it is a “dynamic” address). Note, however, that if you have a broadband connection, depending on your individual circumstance, it is possible that your IP Address that we collect, or even perhaps a cookie we use, may contain information that could be deemed identifiable. This is because with some broadband connections your IP Address doesn’t change (it is “static”) and could be associated with your personal computer. We use your IP address to report aggregate information on use and to help improve the website.

If you use The Athlete Village’s forum or blog, you should be aware that any personally identifiable information you submit there can be read, collected, or used by other users of these forums, and could be used to send you unsolicited messages.  For user testimonials, we do obtain the customer’s consent prior to posting their name along with their testimonial. We are not responsible for the personally identifiable information you choose to submit in these forums. 

If you choose to use our referral service to tell a friend about our site, we will ask you for your friend’s name and email address.  We will automatically send your friend a one-time email inviting him or her to visit the site.  The Athlete Village stores this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email and tracking the success of our referral program.  Your friend may contact us at http://www.theathletevillage.com/contact  to request that we remove this information from our database.

Children Under Age 13

The Athlete Village does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13 or knowingly allow such persons to register. If you are under 13, please do not attempt to register for The Athlete Village or send any information about yourself to us, including your name, address, telephone number, or email address. No one under age 13 may provide any personal information to or on The Athlete Village. In the event that we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under age 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that we might have any information from or about a child under 13, please contact us through the the contact information on our privacy help page.

Children Between the Ages of 13 and 18

We recommend that minors 13 years of age or older ask their parents for permission before sending any information about themselves to anyone over the Internet.

Security 

The security of your personal information is important to us. When you enter sensitive information (such as credit card number) on our order forms, we encrypt that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL).  We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it.  No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however.  Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

We do not share, sell, rent, or trade Personally Identifiable Information with third parties except as described in this privacy notice.

We may share Your Information with agents or service providers of The Athlete Village in connection with services that these individuals or entities perform for, or with, The Athlete Village. These agents are restricted from using this data in any way other than to provide services for The Athlete Village, or services for the collaboration in which they and The Athlete Village are engaged. We may, for example, provide your information to agents, contractors or partners for hosting our databases, for data payment processing services, or so that they can email or mail you information that you requested.  In addition, if you purchase performance analysis, we will share your video and order information with the independent consultant who performs your analysis.  We will not share your name, location, or any other personally identifiable information.

The Athlete Village reserves the right to share Your Information to respond to duly authorized information requests of governmental authorities or where required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on our Web site. In exceptionally rare circumstances where national, state or company security is at issue (such as with the World Trade Center terrorist act in September, 2001), The Athlete Village reserves the right to share our entire database of visitors and customers with appropriate governmental authorities.

We may also provide Your Information to a third party in connection with the sale, assignment, or other transfer of the business of this website to which the information relates, in which case we will require any such buyer to agree to treat Your Information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

As a convenience to our visitors, this Website currently contains links to a number of sites that we believe may offer useful information. The policies and procedures we described here do not apply to those sites. We suggest contacting those sites directly for information on their privacy, security, data collection, and distribution policies.

Access to Personally Identifiable Information

If your personally identifiable information changes, or if you no longer desire our service, you may correct, update, delete or deactivate it by logging into your account and clicking on “profile” or by contacting us via our website or postal mail at the contact information listed below.

Choice/Opt-out

If you no longer wish to receive our newsletter and promotional communications, you may opt-out of receiving them by following the unsubscribe instructions included in each newsletter or communication. We also offer an opportunity to opt-out of newsletters on our member information pages or you may contact us at the address below to be removed from our contact lists.

The only other time that The Athlete Village will contact you is regarding fulfillment of an order placed with us, or regarding general service issues with the website.  You may not opt of these communications as they are not promotional in nature. If you do not want to receive these communications, you should cancel your account with The Athlete Village.
