Do you recomend eating or "refueling" during long open water swims?

Do you recomend eating or "refueling" during long open water swims?  I know a lot of people stop for water, but what about food?  I am training for a 4.4 mile swim which should take me just under 2 hours.  I train without eating all the time, but I keep hearing about adding calories as well.  Any thoughts?

YES. It is a must

In a 2 hour swim, proper hydration and feeding are a must.  If you can get some fluid from the boat (Bay swim), take the 15 seconds to stop.  If your race has a predetermined feeding station, be sure to plan your stops.  Here's a tip for a Gu pack.  Cut the top half way, and stick it in your suit.  This provides enough pressure to keep in the gu.  When you are ready to eat, pull out the packet, put it in your mouth, and squeeze.  No tearing necesary.  Good luck

Well

i don't think it could hurt to stick a couple Gu packets (or something like that) in your suit just in case. Better to have and not need it rather than need it and not have it.
