David Rieder

David Rieder

David “The Swim Geek” Rieder is a high school student in Charleston, SC.  He swims high school, summer league, and year-round, specializing in the 500 free and backstroke races.

David has been involved with swimming his whole life.  Beginning summer league swimming at age 6, he immediately became attracted to Olympic swimming, watching the Olympic Trials and Olympics in 2000 and 2004 before becoming hooked on swimming for good during the 2007 World Championships.  He closely followed Michael Phelps’ quest for eight gold medals in Beijing, and he has since become immersed in all levels of swimming: high school, college, national, and international.

David occasionally writes for SwimmingWorldMagazine.com, reporting on meets varying from high school championships to Grand Prix and international events.  He has also contributed to several SwimmingWorld.TV productions, working at the Charlotte UltraSwim and TYR Capital Classic so far, and he has appeared on both the Morning Swim Show and Split Time.

In addition to The Athlete Village, David blogs on his own site, www.theswimgeek.com.  He discusses what’s going on in swimming and provides an analytical spin to it.  He is looking forward to developing new conversations and greater interactions with the swimming community here at The Athlete Village.
